HISTORY
Alloa Bowling Club was formed in 1845 and the "old" Clubhouse (picture above) was opened in 1889. For the next 150 years the club was a mainstay of the sport of bowls within Clackmannanshire and members were instrumental in popularising the game and, also, in promoting competitions both locally and throughout Scotland.
For much of this period, bowls was conducted on very traditional lines but, more recently, changes began to take effect. In 1930 women were permitted to play on the green but it was not until 1980 that their position within the club was formalised. In 1984 bowling on Sundays was finally allowed. Then, in 1995, the present clubhouse was opened, making the Alloa Bowling Club one of the best provided clubs in the country. Not content with the "new" clubhouse, in 2002 work began on an additional building to provide a new ladies locker room and additional storage, along with a covered viewing veranda. The pictures below show some of the early work on this project.
